    actions to be taken in the unlikely event of an accident.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

 

Introduction

Toray Textiles Europe Limited produces synthetic fabrics for end use in markets such as: fashion, lingerie, active sportswear, Interiors and technical / surgical applications. The Company recognises
that its activities, products and services has an impact on the environment, the Company will
responsibly manage its impacts so being able to demonstrate sound environmental performance.
The company will implement and maintain an environmental management system to meet the requirements of ISO 14001 and help achieve its environmental and economic goals.

Scope

The scope of the environmental management system covers the range of activities, products and services inclusive and associated with yarn preparation and processing, weaving, dyeing and
finishing. In formulating and through implementation of our policy we have taken into account legal
and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes, and environmental aspects which it
can control and influence. In formulating our policy we have referred to our corporate philosophy and guiding principles to aim for excellence in our contributions to the environment.

Policy Commitments Compliance with Environmental Legislation

Toray Textiles Europe Limited is committed to complying with applicable environmental legislation
and other requirements relevant to its environmental aspects by:

  • Establishing, implementing and maintaining procedures to identify and control the
    environmental aspects of its activities, products and services
  • Controlling industrial waste and effluent streams
  • Introducing environmental monitoring systems to avoid, reduce or control pollution.
Reduction in Environmental Effects

Resources will be provided to minimise the environmental impact of our operations wherever and whenever possible to prevent pollution and sustain continual improvement in overall environmental performance.

Commitment and Communication

Toray Textiles Europe Limited is committed to training and motivating our employees to work in an environmentally responsible manner. The company will provide relevant information regarding the potential impacts of its operations to its employees and work with suppliers, customers, contractors
and other persons who perform tasks on behalf of the company to promote awareness of the
importance of reducing environmental impacts, and the need to work in an environmentally
responsible manner. The company is committed to identifying, maintaining and periodically
reviewing compliance with its legal and other requirements applicable to the environmental aspects.

Environmental Objectives and Targets

The company will develop, implement and maintain its environmental management system to meet
the requirements of ISO 14001, the company documents procedures for setting and reviewing its environmental programmes, objectives and targets. Objectives are consistent with policy
commitment and requirements.

Environmental Protection and Enhancement

Toray Textiles Europe Limited recognise the supreme importance in working to confront threats to
the global environment. We actively identify environmental aspects and impacts associated with activities, products and services and adopt systems to manage and enhance positive impacts.

This policy will be communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the Company. The policy
will be displayed throughout the business and will be brought to the attention of all employees.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES

The goal of Toray Textiles Europe Limited is to achieve Environmental excellence by recognising that environmental issues are of fundamental importance to a successful and responsible business
strategy. Therefore, we are committed to minimising the impact of our operations wherever and whenever possible to realise our goal.

The Policy of the Company is to recognise that environmental conservation is a fundamental requirement of corporate activity and its implementation must therefore be accorded the necessary priority.

In line with our commitment to the environment the following principles apply:

  • Environmental conservation is the responsibility of the company and must be enacted through
    the efforts of everyone
  • Endeavour to strengthen mutual understanding with relevant sections of society who are involved with local activities on environmental conservation
  • Play an active role in protecting the local and global environment, where possible by:
  • Complying with all applicable environmental legislation and other requirements relevant to its environmental aspects
  • Making efficient use of energy, optimise the use of energy where practicable, and minimise greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reducing polluting emissions and waste from operations where practicable
  • Where practicable optimise the use of resources, reduce waste and encourage the reuse and recycling of materials.
  • Communicate with key suppliers, contractors, customers and other interested parties in terms
    of policy requirements, product, packaging and services.
  • Assessing environmental aspects and maintain emergency plans to ensure rapid response against the potential for on and off site environmental impacts.
  • Use internal audits to ensure compliance with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems Standard
  • Support training and education on relevant environmental issues

These principles will be communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the Company. The principles will be displayed throughout the business and will be brought to the attention of all
employees.

HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

 

The policy of Toray is:-

SAFETY FIRST AT ALL TIMES because human life is the most important factor to consider.
Everyone must value other peoples’ lives as well as their own life at home, at work and in society. Production efficiency and quality are directly related to the safety of the production process and the safety consciousness of all employees. Therefore, the aim is to continuously improve the safety of
the production process and to raise the safety consciousness of all employees.
  • TTEL will comply with all statutory Health & Safety requirements. Risk assessments and work
    task procedures will be undertaken to ensure suitable preventive measures are implemented
    to eliminate risks at source.
  • TTEL will take all reasonable steps to accommodate disabled workers, where appropriate adapting operating procedures and making specific arrangements. The Company will comply
    with health and safety duties by providing a safe workplace for disabled workers.
  • TTEL will comply with health and safety duties for workers at particular risks including -
    pregnant workers and new mothers, young people, temporary workers and contractors, lone workers and shift workers.
  • TTEL policy statements will be issued from time to time to explain how the Company will
    comply with all statutory legislation.
  • TTEL is committed to designing, developing, producing and marketing safe products in order
    to protect employees, customers and consumers.
  • TTEL has appointed a Director in overall control of Health, Safety & Environment –
    Mr A. Karasawa
  • TTEL has an appointed Safety Manager, Mr M. Fisher, who will liaise between the sites to
    ensure the Company Health & Safety policies are standardised and will collate and analyse statistical information on reported incidents.
  • Health, Safety & Environment Management Committee meets monthly to discuss incidents, activities and improvements for safety awareness and performance.
  • Individual managers are responsible for ensuring the Health & Safety of employees under
    their control and are held accountable for any incidents within their area of control.
  • All employees have a responsibility under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to work
    safely and they are required to co-operate with management in the implementation of safety
    rules and regulations.
  • Every employee receives safety training and instruction on safe operating procedures (SOP)
    on joining TTEL, when carrying out daily duties and on moving to a new position within the Company.
  • TTEL encourages all employees to actively participate in the promotion of safety. A Safety Information Reporting System is used to highlight hazards in the workplace and the potential
    risks from those hazards.
  • A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all process operations within the Company will be compiled. The SOP will contain the agreed method of working to reduce the risks so far as is reasonably practicable, each SOP will include a Risk Assessment, the RA will document the
    key risk reduction methods employed to eliminate / minimise / and or control the risks
    associated with the process, they must be adhered to by all employees.
  • All staff using Company vehicles will be required to comply with the TTEL vehicle driving regulations.
  • An emergency procedure has been prepared for each site detailing the action to be taken
    and the persons responsible for that action in the event of an emergency. All employees
    receive instruction in basic fire prevention methods and the relevant emergency procedure.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the factory sites except in designated permitted areas. These permitted areas will display a notice, signed by the Factory Manager, authorising
    smoking. Infringement of this rule is a dismissible offence for employees and a termination of contract for contracted personnel.
  • Permanent fixed places for the carrying out of operations involving the use of potential fire
    sources (eg welding, grinding) will be approved by the Engineering Department and a notice displayed to identify the place. The temporary use of such potential fire sources in other
    places shall be regulated by the permit to work system. Suitable fire fighting equipment must
    be available where these operations are carried out.
  • TTEL provides, free of charge, protective clothing and equipment where necessary.
    Employees have a duty under legislation and terms and conditions to look after and use this equipment correctly.
  • Training and examination in First Aid is carried out to ensure sufficient first aid personnel are available throughout the factory.
  • The Engineering Department will compile an inventory of electrical equipment and circuitry
    that shall be tested at regular intervals. All work on and maintenance of electrical equipment
    and circuitry shall be carried out by the Engineering Department or contractors approved by
    the Engineering Department.
  • All pressure vessels and lifting equipment, including steam boilers, air receivers, process machinery, lifting equipment – fork lift trucks, reach trucks, pedestrian trucks and associated
    lifting tackle are the subject of regular inspections and tests to ensure they comply with the
    current regulations regarding the safety and testing of pressure vessels and lifting operations
    and lifting equipment.
  • All employees have a duty to use equipment correctly and as instructed. If defects are found in
    any equipment, it is their duty to ensure that it is taken out of service immediately and returned
    to the Engineering Department for repair and test.
  • TTEL has a policy of continuous improvement in both the working environment and external
    effects that may have an impact on local communities. All managers are responsible for
    process monitoring within their area and for ensuring that any emissions are not harmful to
    health or to the environment.
  • TTEL complies fully with the waste management regulations to minimise the production of
    waste and to re-use or re-cycle wherever possible.
  • TTEL has a policy to improve its effects on the Environment, such objectives include –
    Reducing Energy and CO2, Eliminating Waste and Emissions, Procuring Green products
    and Conserving natural resources such as water and use of fossil fuels.
