Toray See It Safe

Introduction

Toray Textiles Europe Composites is a range of fabrics designed for use in the manufacturing of Reinforced Advanced Composite Materials.

These fibre reinforced laminates are composed of synthetic fabrics impregnated with thermo-set resins and lubricant fillers, ideally suited to high loaded bearing applications in a variety of environments.

Toray Textiles Europe Composite woven fabrics are manufactured in the UK from polyester fibre, meta-aramids, para-aramids and PTFE.

Our fabrics are used in composite bearing applications which are designed to provide exceptional wear resistance with virtually no swell in water and provide superior dimensional stability.

Industrial End Uses

Example end uses for advanced composite materials include:

  • Marine Stern and Rudder Bearings
  • Water Lubricated Bearings
  • Greaseless Bearings
  • Structural Bearings
  • Washers and Wear Rings
  • Wear Pads and Strips
  • Rollers and Bushes

Toray Textiles has developed a number of new products with customers to improve the composites mechanical and chemical properties. In particular, improved friction coefficient, heat resistance and load capability.

Toray Textiles can discuss any issues associated with the fibre composition and will work with you to design solutions to improve the composites performance.

Product Characteristics

In areas without lubrication, a composite bearing material is especially effective in eliminating problems associated with dry running conditions, giving the material a broad range of hydro applications. Fibre reinforced composite materials offer low friction sliding surface to optimise the sliding properties.

Composite Bearings have all the advantages of metal spherical bearings plus:

  • A higher load capability
  • No corrosion problems allowing operation in both wet and dry conditions
  • Improved friction co-efficient
  • Self lubricating
  • Easily machined
  • No maintenance
  • Lower mass of steel bearings
